Every loyalty program claims its points are priceless. The valuation trackers say otherwise – and the 2026 numbers contain the widest spread in years: the same 50,000 points can be worth more than $850 at one hotel group and barely $200 at another. If you collect hotel points, the cent-per-point ledger below is the single most important table you will read this year.
| Program | Points value (2026) | What 50,000 points buy |
|---|---|---|
| World of Hyatt | ~1.65-1.9 cents | ~$825-950 in stays |
| Marriott Bonvoy | ~0.7-0.8 cents | ~$350-400 |
| Wyndham Rewards | ~0.7 cents | ~$350 |
| IHG One Rewards | ~0.6 cents | ~$300 |
| Hilton Honors | ~0.4-0.6 cents | ~$200-300 |
Hyatt Is Not Winning – It Is Playing a Different Sport
Hyatt points are worth roughly three to four times a Hilton point, and the gap is structural: Hyatt awards top-tier redemptions at aspirational properties for standard-point prices, while its inventory stays lean. Hilton, by contrast, devalued in September 2025 and now sits at 0.4-0.6 cents – which is why Hilton floods members with huge point totals that look impressive and buy less. A “150,000-point” Hilton offer and a “40,000-point” Hyatt offer are, on average, worth about the same money.
Two programs work differently on purpose: Accor (ALL) and GHA DISCOVERY price their points as a fixed cash value instead of by the night. There are no award-chart sweet spots and no devaluation roulette – your points are simply vouchers. That predictability is worth something, but it caps the upside that makes Hyatt redemptions famous.
How to Read the Ledger in Practice
- Price every redemption in cents, not in nights. Divide the cash rate by the points asked; if the result beats the program’s table value by a wide margin, book it. A Marriott night at 1.2 cents per point is a good deal even though Marriott points average 0.7.
- Earn flexibly, burn at Hyatt. Transferable points (from major credit card currencies) let you route into Hyatt when the redemption is rich, instead of being locked into whatever your usual chain pays this quarter.
- Watch the earn side too. Hilton points are easy to stack in volume; the trap is comparing point totals across programs – the only comparable unit is the cent.
The Bottom Line
Points are currency, and currencies have exchange rates: Hyatt ~1.7 cents, Marriott ~0.7-0.8, IHG ~0.6, Hilton ~0.4-0.6 in 2026. Choose where to stay loyal based on where you actually sleep, but choose where to redeem based on the ledger – and never let a big-looking point total flatter you into a bad redemption.
